I have an 83 GL1100 Aspencade. I started noticing a little oil on the toe of my boot every now and then. After investigating I found that the leak is coming from around some cap/seal on the back of the left cylinder head. I can't seem to find it on any parts explosions online to see what all is behind it or to get what I need to fix it. Is it just a matter of replacing the gasket behind that cap or is there another seal in behind it that is actually what is leaking? The image below shows where it is leaking.

Thanks in advance.

Can you replace the seal by just pulling off that cover or do you have to pull the cylinder head to get to it?

Just pull the cap off. On a 1000 that is where the distributor goes. 1100's are already electronic and don't need it.

So is it just a seal/gasket between the plate and the cylinder head or is there another seal behind it around the cam shaft?

There is a cam oil seal inside and a gasket on the cover..replace both.
