Cana scewyignition switch cause fan and fuel gauge not to work some times?

I have to wiggle the key to turn it. Fan was working then not, temp. was 3/4

the way up. I shut the bike off. Tried to turn key back on, wiggle wiggle ,the fan kicks on. Now gas gauge not working,but it was.:?

If you can wiggle the switch and it turns on I would say yes you have a problem at the switch.The switchcould be related to one or both problems.

If wiggling the switch changes things, then yes, something is wrong with the switch.. but keep in mind that the fuel gage and temperature gage are both powered by a 7 volt regulator.. if both gages are acting up, that would be another possible issue..

It's funny you say that, because my 1983 Aspencade did the same thing!

I also noticed that the bike's air compressor and tail light worked or did not work depending on how I jiggled the ignition key.

I bought another '83 Aspencade, good runner, that had a non-matching ignition key. It's a fact that this model/year bike had bad ignition locks.

Thanks for your help, will change switch and see what
happens. Had problem with tach. was in the cable like
suggested . One more check off on a list of many.
