I am looking to buy a tool to loosen and then add some torque to my steering head bearing. Does anyone know the specs on the notches and the size or diameter of the locknut with the notches?

thanks...

Can't remember the notch number Ed, but I had a friend make one from 43mm steel tube with an old 1/2" drive socket welded on one end so I could torque it.

Thanks Alan,

I have been looking on Ebay for a spanner wrench, but not sure if I can find one that fits.

something like that may to the trink. The other thing I have been told is to use a punch tool to loosen and then tighten the notched lock nuts.

I hate to say it, but I've seen actual bike mechanics use a hammer and cold chisel to tap off the steering nuts! It does work, even though it isn't the proper way of doing things. Last resort I suppose.
