Hi, just a quick question, my buddy has a 84 interstate 1200 while he was getting it ready for his first ride of the year he decided to check the charging system.
After it had warmed up, we put the meter on it and it was charging at 13.85 volts at idle @3000 revs it was at 13.93, when the fan kicked in it was at 15.25 at idle, is this
normal?, seems pretty high to me. anyone with any info?
thanks

15.25 seems borderline high. Any higher and you might start roasting bulbs and battery. Ideally it shouldn't ever reach 15 volts.

I would get a second opinion with another test meter and if you get the same results, start by testing the regulator/rectifier.

Sounds high to me. Mine used to drop to around 12 volts ticking over with the fan on, but went to around 14 at 3000 revs
