Tracked an oil leak down to the shift shaft. Read through all the comments here that say you have to drop the exhaust header on the '84.
I replaced the seal in 10 minutes without dropping the header.The only thing that had to come off was the shift lever. It's a tight fit behind the header, but a 1/4" socket on a long extension was able to grab the shift level clamp bolt.
The hardest part of the job is getting the bike on the center stand.
Hopefully this will end the oil stains on my left shoe.
