Wow, my memory has gone, I don't remember a bolt like that on my 86 SEI. But someone will come along soon with the answer to that question. Can't you get clearance if you separate the headers from the muffler? You might need new gaskets between them, quite often they break when coming apart. As for the exhaust port gaskets, pretty good idea to get replacements, reusing them is really asking for leaks. It sounds like you got the headers off without breaking a stud, that's good luck!

I hope you are keeping the bike leaning left on the side standwhile the starter is out or that you've secured the starter sprocket so it can't fall.

Wouldn't hurt to get them loose. I'd use new nuts with a touch of antisieze just to make my life easier in the future. The woman who hangs around here is pretty open minded about the kitchen, I've used the dishwasher for some judicious cleaning and the oven for heating various parts and coatings in the past. As long as it doesn't smell up the place she seems to let it go by.
