I need to install a power outlet so I can use my GPS but have no idea about the wiring side of things. Can I just run a new wire directly to the battery? Do I need an inline fuse?

Any help would be great.

If you want the GPS powered all the time then a fused line from the battery is okay.

If you only want it powered while the bike is running then the accessory terminals on the fuse box would be better and no fuse needed as it's already fused.

dont know what type of gps you have but mountgoys sells a 12v to 5v module that powers a gps or whatever directly using a usb plug, and there are adapters out there that adapt that to a ipod or itouch style or mini usb connector, that way it can be put on a fused circuit or even with a fuse allowing fulltime power

and if you already have a power port and need a iphone or itouch power these are better than other styles i've seen and cheap enough to buy for several vechicles
