85 goldwing fuel injection issues

1645 Views 9 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  blackknytecnc
Have an 85 goldwing with fuel injection. Once the temp gauge reads 2 bars the engine start to miss like it is either getting too much or little fuel. I have repaired the stator wires and checked the led lights on the ecm under the trunk. No lights are on . Can someone help. I have been told everything from fuel injectors, fuel pump, tps...
Again, runs great when cold but as it gets warn(2 bars) it runs like crap

I sold my 86 FI last year. I remember that the fuel economy was poorer until it warmed up and leaned itself out so I know the computer makes adjustments. I never had a need to know if there are adjustments for that. However, depending on how long you have had the bike, sometimes a good treatment with Sea Foam can get rid of some of the fuel related crud in any system. I do remember that whenever I took it to my mechanic he talked about cleaning the plates. This is something related to the fuel system and definately helped my fuel mileage, but with mine only temporarily. Maybe someone will chime in with more info about the plates. There was never much of a charge if any related to this little cleaning, he just did it when it was in for something else.
Welcome to the forum Rich
Try adding to your title of the thread 85 LTD and that will get the attention of those that know the FI 1200s.
Have you tried using the forum search tool?
really need more info by what u mean "runs crappy"
You may be barking up the wrong tree thinking it is the injection system. Check out the ignition system, mainly the coils and resistors in the plug caps.
Neoracer, by crapy I mean
Once 2 bars a reached on the temp meter I feels like the bike loses power starts to run roughlike its not getting fuel. Also will not idle. If left to cool down bike will start but still runs rough and won't go. It just dies. Could this problem be caused by a bad temp sensor?
A bad sensor would give you a code. You need to look for things not monitored by the computer.

Thanks for the info. Question, do the codes pop on automaticly or do I need to do something like cycle the key to read them?
The lights should show the code(s) just by turning the switch on.
Checking the ECM lights has to be done when the malfunction occurs before turning the key off doesn't it? Is that how you're checking it?

When you say "If left to cool down bike will start but still runs rough and won't go. It just dies.", how far are you letting it cool?

Does it produce any smells/smokes when it starts running rough? Have you tried to keep it running long enough to get to the full 5-6 bar opperating temp? If so, does it still run like crap there?

What kind of condition is the fuel filter in? Plugs/plug wires? Junk in the tank? Do any dash lights come on when it's doing it?

And this one just popped in my head, what's your idle set at?
