86 aspy bad milage

first real trip out after a lot of electrical issues, but that is fixed. and thanks for all the help. went on first real ride ,riding with my brother which has a 86 aspy.Riding at 80-85 mph I got 28mpg and bro got 41mpg . dropped speed to 60-70, and I got 37 mpg. My bro. got 43mpg. ang suggestions would be much appreciated. Arlin

You might try some Sea Foam to get the carbs a little cleaned out, and a new air filter for starters. Then just basic tune-up, and be sure you don't have any dragging brake-pads. You may also want to bump-up the tire pressure.



Low to mid 30's is pretty normal for sustained speeds above 70/75mph... :gunhead:

run a few tanks with seafoam. Check your air filter. Check your plugs for color and check your exhaust for soot. Plugs should be nice light gray. sooty exhaust would indicate running too rich.

You didn't say what your brother was riding...and good advice above... , but just a tank or twoas a check is not very accurateand actually 28 mpg at 85 mph is not that bad.. and 37 mpg at 65 mph is in the ball park... dressed wings have terrible aerodynamics so mileage drops off very significantly at higher speeds (inversely to speed squared)

28 MPG over 80? Sounds normal to me. I think your brother has found the magic mileage pill.

thanks for the info I'll try those suggestions and see if I can't get just a little better.
