This is my brothers bike. He has been riding down the road and it might loose power for a second or two. Most of the time it is after getting gas and he can drain the battery trying to start it back up. Calls his son to give him a jump and it will start right up and run fine to where ever he is going. I have seen some posts about the pulse generator and ECM. I did a search but not finding the same issue. We look forward to your thoughts. Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure about the power lose for a second or two but the cranking until he kills the battery but will jump start and run fine sounds like a bad battery. It has enough power to run the starter but the voltage is dropping to low to run the ignition.

Is the bike new to your brother. Could be a number of issues. What is the state of the charging system, what does the battery load test at. Is there spark to the plugs when trying to start.

A proper diagnostic routine needs to be done to identify the source of the problem.

He got the bike earlier in the summer. It had a new battery in it when he bought it. The PO did the new battery so we would not know that the charging system was bad. We ended up doing a poor boy conversion. When it died trying to start it was aftercranking itfor 4 or 5 minutes to try and start it.

The power loose was the engine cut off while riding and then kicking back on a second later.

After looking at it some yesterday the Honda manual shows the pulse generators should have about 12,000 ohm's and we are only getting 3,000 ohm's. I think that this could be the issue.

could be pg's which usually go when hot and restart after cooling, can measure good resistance wise but still be malfunctioning

sounds more like a connector or ignition switch problem

i'd pull the "tank" and wiggle some wiring, only having a good well thought work procedure to check things will help
