A friend bought this bike and has a starting problem . He has to jump start it frequently , it has a new battery and the starter seems to work fine . He would like to know if the digital info system on the tank should shut off when the bike is not running . His flashes when the ignition is turned off . Is this normal ?? We do plan on pulling the starter to clean the brushes and internal parts when it warms up a bit . Any other sugjestions ??

Hi, it is normal for the trip computer to be 'on' when the bike is switched off. And yes it will drain the battery!. Either disconnect the computer (plugs underneath) or use a battery mate which will keep the battery fully charged all the time. If the starter motor is working fine then don't touch it. If it aint broke don't fix it.

As stated there is a small "parasitic" drain on the battery caused by the travel computer memory requirements when the bike is off. In summer tempconditions, the battery should last about 3-4 weeks without needing to be charged. Wintertime, about 2 weeks. That's why it's good to have a maintenence charger hooked to it when not riding.



Also, if you're not using a gel cell type battery, keep a close eye on the electrolyte level and make sure it's full!
