My 87 aspencade has cover plates where turning lights can be mounted. I assume these are called turning lights anyway (lower front of fairing). I have looked everywhere I can think of to find these lights, to no avail. Has anyone mounted a different light in that space? Or can anyone point me in a good direction to find something that fits? With some decent rigging I found some 12v lights at Advance Autoparts that would look nice but I need to find a way to take up the gap around the lights. Any ideas?

I've gotten all the parts that I need for my '87 Aspencade from Used Goldwing Parts, Inc. here:

http://www.usedgoldwingparts.com/home.html

He used to be located close to me in Atlanta, but has now moved back to Florida.

Mike Cutter is the owner and a good, honest guy to deal with. He buysGL1000s, GL1100s and GL1200s, disassembles themand sells the parts. The parts I got from him were always in very good condition. If it's not in good shape, he doesn't sell it.

He doesn't have the cheapest prices compared to others, but he does have lots of stuff that others don't have.

Give him a try. If you don't see it listed on his site, call him. He does not list everything he's got.

Good luck.

Wingman, what are the dimensions of the light that came in you bike?
As you know, the SE-i style lowers came stock on '87 Aspencades. Since Honda discontinued the SE-i they decided to put the lowers from it on the Aspencade in '87. This is all according to an original 1987 Honda Goldwing color brochure that I still have. Though the SE-i style lowers were stock, the lights mounted inthem were not! The lights were actually an option along with 12 other Aspencade options listed in the brochure.

My lights are white sealed lens units and they are running lights, meaning they are on all of the time. They are not used as turn lights. I have seen some GL1200 Aspencades with yellow lens lights mounted in the same position, but I don't believe those arestock, but rather an aftermarket light.

The light is a sealed beam unit with white lens, and measures 4 & 7/8" wide by 2 & 1/2" tall.

The lensis surrounded by a chrome trim ring which fits tightly in the cutout in the lower fairing where the lights mount. The light with trim ring overall measures 5 & 1/8" wide by 2 & 3/4" tall.

I'm going to try to insert a picture of mine here. Wish me luck!

wingman, yes those are exactly what I was looking for. I would also be very interested if you have the part number or any other information that may help me find them. Also, thank you very much for the dimensions. I came up with nearly the same dimensions when measuring the the plastic insert piece. thanks again for all your help.

I searched on some OEM parts sites (like Bike Bandit, etc.) that have the original Honda microfiche, and did not find any of the parts diagramsthat listed the actual sealed beam light as a part! They listed the cover that is used to fill up the hole if you don't have the light installed, but they do not list the light itself.

That kind of infers that these lights are astock automotive style sealed beam headlight that can be purchased directly from an auto parts store.

I'll look at mine tonight when I get home and see if I can find a part number or a manufactuer's name or something on the light. (Hopefully that stuff will be on the front edge of the lens somewhere and I won't have to disassemble my fairing lowers to look at the back of the light! If I have to do that, it will be a weekend project.)

Wingman. dont taker apart everything due to me. I'll find something. I'm fairly certain I can find something at an autoparts store that I can make fit. Thank you for all your help. I'll keep looking. Just knowing what yours look like and dimensionas helps a lot.

Good find 1stwing!!! :clapper:

Looks like they are NOT sealed beam units like I thought, but actually assemblies with separate bulbs inside.

Now starts the "hunt". I still saythat the used Goldwing parts guy that I listed in an earlier post is worth a shot.

I looked at the GL1200 lights section on his web site and these were not listed, but his note says that only about 1% of what they have in stock is actually listed/shown on their site.

Good luck!
