This may have already been posted????
I have an 88 Wing. I seen a friends 91(i think) and his control switches(tuner,volume,etc...) light up. Is this something you can do to an 88? Or do you have to buy the other year switch holders or the whole combo switches? I thought about LED lights. but not sure yet. any help or links is appreciated. thanks

Hi bones200, I'm not sure about lights if you have an Interstate, but, there are lights certainly on the Aspy, and do commonly burn out, so the answer may be to look at the "how to" forum on Goldwingdocs.com and install 5mm (blue if you wish) LED's, bit fiddly but well worth a look.
Cheers,
Peter.
I believe that that was a function of the SE models of the 1500's and to retro fit would require the controls from an SE. They can be converted over to LED's and they look great!! Not too hard to install..just use 3mm LED and a resistor. Here is a link on "How to doit" from another Wing site: http://goldwingdocs.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=9667

Thanks for the info. My question now is..Would the 88 housings work? Are they transparent where the led's would show?
If not. I may need to try a different venue?

Open one up and shine in a light is the best answer I have for that question....
ok. If they don't. Not sure what I might do. Only want the left side to light up(Channels, volume, etc.)
The switch/control labels on your '88 are solid and won't really "glow" if back-lighted - to get lighted handgrip switches/controls you'd really have to chase some replacements from the latter year SE or Aspencade. (started in the SE in 1990)
or dealer new parts for the labels and lights.

I've seen where some people try to replace the switch labels (OEM will call them an Ornament Plate) and fit a light, which should be "doable" but they also need to work wiring for the light
Someone was selling lighted covers for those. I've never actually seen them installed, but maybe you could do an internet search. They may still be in business.
Only SE models from 1990 have lighted switchgear. 88-89 models don't have them.
Thanks for ALL the replies. Sounds like a little later project at the moment. I guess I will see if I can find some 90 and up switches.
