I have a Solex 34 pict 3 on a modified tubular manifold. After nine months of living with it, these are my thoughts.

Sub 3000 RPM response is poor. Everything above that is pretty good. Since I normally cruise at 4 to 5000 RPM that isn’t an issue. My miles per gallon is normally between 25 to 30. After doing almost 700 miles round trip to Las Vegas and back, I averaged 35 mpg, and that was with 100 miles of fighting a 30 mph wind. Tuned the way I have the carburetor, top end is great. Lots of power. I’m a very large man, bigger than some pairs who ride 2 up, and I still have top end to spare.

Is it better than OEM? No. But since my carbs needed a rebuild and balance, I was happy to try. I don’t think I lost any horsepower, but I did lose some torque. This certainly is not for everyone. I think it would be troublesome in colder climates. But in the Southwest, I’m overall happy.
