9-pin connector

I was taking the "tank" frame off and doing some fuse work when I found this. It's a 9-pin male connector that has a bunch of wires running out of it and in to the headlight assembly, from there I loose it in black tape. What is this thing and where does it need to be plugged in? I can't find anything that looks like it would go there...

Are the indicator lights in the spedo / tach hooked up? The only thing I can think of is a pig tail plugged into this and went to the neutral, high beem, ect. and / or the gauges.

That looks suspiously like the plug connector on the old Vetter fairing. Can you be certain that bike didn't have a fairing on it at one time in it's life?

That would make sense...it would explain why all the wires are cut and spliced in the headlight and also why the turn signals are not the original ones and why they are mounted up on the handlebars...they must have been put that way after the fairing came off...I never asked the guy who sold it to me if it had a fairing, but I guess I know now. Thanks, Sam! Good eyes!:clapper:

Raymd is right. The Vetter fairing had a much smaller plug than the Honda fairing fitted to the later GL1100, that one does look just right. You could probably sell that plug on EBay!

I was going to offer it up here for free first since you guys have been so helpful. Anybody need an old vetter fairing plug off a 76 Gl1000? Let me know. First come first serve.

just a hunch... but after all the threads about deer alerts... do you think it might have been an eletrical deer alert?

actually looks identical to the vetter fairing connector on my '78

I had Vetter fairings on my two Kawasaki's, the reason I recognized it.

Just be careful when you get inside the headlamp can and undo all those scotch locks. Check all the wires to make sure the scotchlock didn't CUT thru any, and depending on the hookup you may need to resolder some. Usually just match like colors.
New to wiring, and new to me 77 wing.
I just took the (in great shape incl radio!) Vetter off, and I came across a 9 pronged male.
What do I do with this now, to get from all the Vetter gadgets, back to my regular headlights, plus some new turn signals?

Cheers,

Swally.
