Lookin' at this Wing for sale. price is right for this area but it has 262,000 kms or around 150,000 miles. Running well but how long will it run before major work has to be done???

It all depends on prior maintenance history, IMHO. Does the owner seem to have maintained it well? Is there a history of receipts that show TLC?

I agree. Depends on the previous maintenance. If properly taken care of, that is not bad mileage at all. Guess one thing to remember is it's not only the engine, but the suspension and swing arm, and bearings, rear drive......etc.

But if you can pick it up fairly reasonable, you could always part it out, after hopefully a few more thousand miles on it.

Guess I'm saying, the mileage wouldn't bother me too much. Rather buy a used wing that's been running on the road, than sitting under a tarp, or in a garage.

I get the feeling that the owner is responsable & the bike is in good shape with new rubber, alt etc. I feel good about the deal but have never owned a 1500 so I do rely on all of you for your input!

Wayne,

I would go by the "feel of the owner". How do you feel about him while talking to him. Do his records seem to be decent, and does the bike appear to be in good condition.

Set on it, and ride it around. Jump up and down and try to make the steering yoke bearing move. Is it tight? If so, he has kept that properly.

While it is setting there parked, grab the tail and push/pull sideways. Any play in the swing arms? Any bearings click when you do that?

Do the brake and shifter shaft arms feel snug? The shifter though, on a 1500 is loosy goosey so don't get alarmed with some looseness there.

If he has been riding it steady, the gas tank should be clean. If he don't mind, pop the right front tupperware off and look at the air filters there. IF they are clean, then he is doing good.

In the "for what it's worth department" I bought my (very clean :clapper

'99 1500SE with 98,000 miles on it. Everything works, looks showroom fresh, doesn't smoke, drink, or do anything else to offend society:dude:

Runs like a charm and I wouldn't hesitate to take it anywhere, anytime. Like everyone else has commented, if it's been taken care of, it's tough to go wrong with a 1500, particularly the later vintage models.

US prices are better and if the Canadian one needs a lot of work you might end up with too much invested if you decided to sell. It will always be a high miler regardless of what you do to it.

I just joined this site, and I'm the fellow that has the 95 wing for sale that Wayne was asking about. I've visited this webpage years ago looking at all the different changes of wings over the years, and it was because of this site that I bought my 95. I have 157,000 miles on my '99 Wing and it still runs great. They are normally good for many thousands of miles with no major repairs. There are some around with over 200,000 miles and no major repairs.
