The digital clock on the dashboard display on my 1996 Goldwing Aspencade (1500A) does not keep correct time at all. Beyond replacing the entire display, is there a FIX for this problem?
One of the members here found a fix which involved stripping and cleaning the unit. You might find the thread in the Reference forum. If not you should find it using the forum search.
The 96 and 97 models were most susceptible to the issues. Some would run fast, some would blank out completely, and some wouldn't completely shut off when the bike would be turned off. The common denominator is dampness or high humidity. Normally after driving for a few miles, the circuit board will dry out and return to normal functioning so that is the quick fix, ride it till it dries out. The fix I posted above is a lot more in depth. If you decide to go with the full fix, it would be a good time to change the dash bulbs, possibly think about going with LED's, change the speakers if you wish, and make sure toclean all the connectors behind the dash and seal with dialectric grease.
