How do I open a trunk on a 1988 model that is locked and will not unlock?

If the trunk is not on the bike you could take it to a locksmith shop. If it's on the bike and the bike runs I guess you could do the same thing. They don't usually charge too much, they should only have to do one and make the key and then you should be able to open the other one.

firefighter if you have the key turn it to the left while pulling on the trunk lid that should open it

spot on link:clapper:the only thing I would add is, a helping hand to pull up on the lid AFTER you have pulled down on the bar may help.
