A Good Dealer, not a Stealer...for a change

We so seldom hear of the good experiences with dealers. Thought I would post up for others who may be in the Central Illinois area.

I had a "starting" issue on my 98 Gl1500A last week..I exhausted my knowledge base when the battery tested fine:D

Called Pat McCue at Sportland Honda, explained the symptoms, He thought it sounded like a right hand switch issue and to bring it over and he would let Cameron take a look

Cameron is one of the "older" guys...28 years experience...does all the Goldwing work and the race suspension work for Sportland

Spent about 30 minutes to diagnose..cleaned the "contacts"?? etc got it to run, but suggested I replace the entire switch to fix it "right", "so it won't leave you stranded later"...left the bike with them Monday

Picked it up today...Parts charge was same as online , Labor was 1.25 Hour

It was a nice to be treated well and fairly. Everything is good with my world again;)

That was a very nice thing for them to fix that for parts cost. Very nice indeed. I would think to survive they would need a shop labor rate of $90 per hour or more so you really got some sweet treatment there.

I read that as the parts were the same cost as buying online, not a huge markup, PLUS 1.25 hour labor charge. That's a decent labor time to do it, but I would say they did charge for labor.

You are correct garyft...I thought the labor was very reasonable also...the shop rate sign says $60/Hour...we are in the cornfields, not the big city;)

It's good to find a dealer that treats you right. I've been disappointed with the dealers around here, and the independent shop that I would actually trust won't work on my bike, too old. I think all the shops around here are $75/hour labor.

On the subject of dealers, I should say some nice things about Westside Honda in Selkirk.

My bike is going in next week for the third time, trying to get the oil leak fixed in the final drive. It isn't anyones fault, they changed the seal and it still leaked, so they set up one test which shows it is not coming from the seal, now Honda have given them some further tests to do, because they don't know what to replace. But they are trying very hard to get it done before the warranty runs out.
