A very sad day

I had an accident. I was cut off and ran into the back of a stopped pickup..just kissed it but my faring is toast. Lots of cracks and pushed in areas on the left side ..I think I can fix it for the short term..Any suggestions on the best body filler, bonding agent, etc.

Or is anyone has a black Hondaline faring they are looking to get rid of PM me...for a 81 1100 I think the 81 to 83 are interchangeable too. Just the need the base adn maybe the mounting bracket..mine got tweaked a bit I may be able to straight it back out.

PS I am OK..only a few bruises and sore muscles.

This was my bike...

RB, glad you are not the one with the cracks and pushed in places. Sorry to hear about your accident and damages to you and your wing. :(

Seems to be choice repair medium is the black ABS cement for making joints on ABS black sewer pipe. Several here have posted to using it with good results. Available at most hardware stores and plumbing supplies. :waving:Keno

Glad you are ok. Look in the for sale forum here I think I saw a fairing to fit your bike there recently.

If can find a fairing I have a mount (you'll need to keep the hardware from you existing mount) you can have for the cost of shipping.

I am sorry to hear about your accident, but glad you were able to walk away from it....The black ABS cement works good but there is another product out there that I have used and I think it is the better choice for ABS repairs....It is Plastex and when I bought my kit it was only available from Canada ....Now there is a distributor in the States...Stuff is NOT cheap but the body shops here use a lot of it on ABS bumpers etc on cars.....I don't know if my favorite breaker has a black fairing for your wing but I will find out what he has and get back to you.....That is if no one here on this forum doesn't have one for sale.....

Sorry to hear about the accident and glade it wasn't worse. I haven't used the plastex but I have heard it's good.
I have used the ABS cement and it works great If it's a big crack or broken off piece fiberglass cloth with the ABS cement works great.

Well crap, that is a bummer! Glad you are doing OK.

As for the fairing... I saw a pile of misc. fairings and pieces out at Bob's the last time I was there. It might be worth it to go have a look. He's awful proud of his stuff though so you might be able to find a better deal on e-bay.

I don't know Bob's but one would tend to think that if he's just throwing them into a pile he doesn't put much value in them, until someone needs something.

Hi Terry,

Bob's is a local M/C salvage yard. I agree with you but it seems like the norm these days. I have gotten a couple good parts from there and I thought since RB is from the other side of the same city, he might get lucky. Bird in the hand, you know.

I used the ABS cement to repair some broken pieces on my 82, worked great. To fill any missing spots, go to your local parts store ( O'Reillys ) and get a bumper repair kit, it's a two part system that really works good.

Glad to hear your only bruised. Could have been so much worse.

i picked up a fairing in great shape from Bob's for $65... maybe i will see you there, seems like i'm always there! :)

Well, you can fix your ride a lot easier than the Doc's can fix you - Glad you weren't hurt, still it's lousy when your bike gets trashed. Nice looking ride, I bet you have it in even better conditin than it was before the accident in short order.

Really glad your just banged up and not badly injured.

Glad you are OK, Get Well and take Time to fix both of your Bodies;)God Bless:coollep:Bob
