I have a 1986 GL1200 Aspincade and I picked up a used audio mute button & radio tuner switch from e-bay for my bike. It is now added to the rear grab bare for the passenger to control, (I'll call it rider).

The factory installed mute / tuner switch on left handlebar (I'll call driver).

These switches wire harness have 4 wires in it, I did not fine this wire loom in my manual but the color codes look like...
Dark Blue with Black stripe I'll call 1
White with Blue stripe I'll call 2
Yellow with Red stripe I'll call 3
Red with Black stripe I'll call 4

Remove the driver switch and wire from bike.
Near the plug end strip back a 1/4 of insulation from wire 3 and 4.
Cut wire 2 and strip back 1/4 from each end.
Cut the plug off the end of what will be your new rider switch
Rider switch wire is to short you will need to add about 3 foot of wire so it will reach the rear grab bar.

Tuner
Solder yellow #3 rider wire to yellow #3 driver wire.
Solder red #4 rider to red #4 driver wire.
At this time the tuner will work on both rider and driver control switch.
If you add the mute button wires 1 & 2 the same way you will need both mute buttons pressed down for the audio to mute.

Mute
Leave driver White #2 wire untouched.
Solder rider Blue #1 wire to driver switch side Blue #1 wire
Solder rider white #2 wire to driver plug side of Blue #1 wire
Both mute buttons will work separately wired like this.

That’s it, reinstall driver switch and install rider switch (I drilled a small hole in a small hose clamp and mounted the switch to the hose clamp then mounted the hose clamp to rear grab bar.

See drawing....

That's interesting. Can you post details of the unit and maybe a link to it on eBay?

The unit is nothing more than a factory switch identical to the one mounted on left handlebar. No link becasue it was just an item I found for sale on e-bay, any used, working, mute tuner switch that is for your left handlebar control will work.
