I will be gone for 30 days and hope to hit all the major areas and coastal towns on the way back

Deadhorse is on the schedule, but only if it is dry ....lol :praying:

I will be riding solo, so noone to answer to...I know this is short notice, but I am looking for someone who can just drop everything and gooooooo.

Pm me if interested.:toast:

I wish !!

Sounds like a dream trip !! Wish I could. Have a great time and ride safe !! :waving:
would love to but I don't believe the wife would let me go that's one of my dream trips also enjoy and ride safely! (would love to see the pictures!)
Coug,

Be aware that this is the rainy season on the route to Alaska. Even if you take the Alcan Hwy or the Cassiar Hwy you will run into quite a bit of weather. Pack appropriately and expect to have to make detours. You may end up blocked for multiple days waiting for the landslides and washouts to be repaired.

Good luck and enjoy the ride. 30 Days is a little short if you are going all the way to Deadhorse. I used to fly in there to do maintenance on the oil field computers, be prepared for lots of creatures. Mosquito's and black fly's are terrible this time of year. So are the larger 4 legged variety.

Watch out, keep us informed. Lots of campgrounds now have wifi so you can update us as you go along.

Wish I was going!!
Thanks for kinds words and advice, much appreciated. I hope I didn't bite off more than I bargained for. This will be the first time in all my 40 yrs of riding that I felt the need to wear good riding boots, leathers, and rain gear and a full faced helmet.

If this is war...then bring it on!!!!! I have been working out all winter, I refurbished the steed and I feel I am ready for this. :weightlifter:

OH....and HANKO ? I will try and keep you guys posted. I bought a mini Ipad just for this trip so pics and videos should be a snap. :eyeball:
Excellent on the iPad mini, if you are tenting try to put your tent on something other than "grass". Lots of insects in the grass this time of year so there will be thousands of them between the rain fly and the main tent. If you're credit card camping (motel/hotels) then just take along lots of Deet to keep the little buggers away.

How about posting your currently expected route, those of us who have been there a number of times can point out some side trips you might enjoy!!

Henry
If you will find somebody to put money into my account while I'm on the road, I'll join up with you when you hit eastern Washington. Actually you will have to find someone to put money in Becky's account too, because she will not let me make that run by myself......

If that does not work out, then by all means please help us out as Hanko suggested, and let us come along thru your trip diary!!

Enjoy the ride, say hi to Delta Junction for me (that's where I grew up) before you head to Fairbanks. And you can get a DANDY buffalo burger there before heading north!

HAVE A BLAST!
That's a dream trip, all right. I would have waited until late August, but by all means, do keep us posted.

Oh...and don't get eaten by a bear.
are you freighting your bike across MN and ND?

Thanks Wingunner, I would love to finance you and Becky however that is one of the reasons why I am taking the trip alone (cannot afford to take my Wife with me). We have been on many trips together but this is one I believe I want to go it alone (on my bike that is). I will try to update you guys on my trials and tribulations on a regular basis so you all can get green :grin:with envy or thank God you didn't come...lol:ROFL:

Frieghting my bike....now you got me worried. Why? Is the weather terrible there right now?

weather is great here, no rain through the weekend. It was you said Wisconsin and then Montana, just razzin ya
There really isn't any guarantee when the dry weather will be in most of Alaska. On the coast we used to consider summer started at the end of June and fall begins around the second week of August. The interior is much drier but a set of Frogg Toggs will do the job in either case. Waterproof boots are a nice thing to have.
Bug dope with the highest DEET content you can find is your close friend. DON'T SPRAY THE STUFF ANYWHERE NEAR YOUR BIKE. It eats plastic.
Bear spray is a very good thing to carry. Personally I'd carry a take down shotgun. Like a coach gun. You can take that through Canada unless they've changed the law again.
Lots of places to eat on the road. Gas stations are at decent intervals though it might get close to the bottom of the tank at times. Plan on road work in areas. Summer is the time to fix things in B.C., Yukon Terr. and Alaska.
It's a great trip through some beautiful country. I've driven and flown the route many times and still think it's a great trip.

And I'd bet theres about 30 or 40 more on here that would love to make that "Dream trip" a reality, I know I would. To bad we couldn't plan a date a couple years out to give some the opportunity to save and prepare for a trip like this then lets all do it as a group ride, our Dream Ride!

Yep and I am one of them, but have to wait a couple more years. Hopefully I will be able to then.
A group trip like that sounds great, Might just start saving and prepping for it now. Plenty of time to get ready.
I'm in!!! Pick a date and let's start making plans and saving money!!!!
