They also have the responsibility of stopping someoneif the alarm goes off when they pass by the sensors as you exit the store. Then they have the added responsibility of trying to make you NOT feel like they are accusing you of shoplifting while they search through all the stuff you just PAID for with their grubby hands and compare it to the receipt you HOPEFULLY remembered to get!The Walmart chain of stores in the US and elsewhere often hire folks who otherwise might be put out to pasture to stand at their doorways and say "Welcome to Walmart" to people entering their stores. A somewhat new idea in the US but common in Japan. I would have applied for the job but have difficulty memorizing the line and they won't spring for a teleprompter.
