Another new member introduction and question

Hello to everyone from the Great White North (not so white right now though). Just getting back into bikes after 20+ years away. Looking to purchase a 1984 Goldwing Interstate in the next few days and have been lurking here fora little while watching, reading and learning. A lifetime ago I started on an old Yamaha 400 XS, then a 650 Maxim up to a 920 Virago and that's pretty much where it ended.

The interim years being taken up with marriage, family etc and my old trusty Datsun 240Z sport car. Still have that little rocket but have had the bike urge growing for a few years now. My wife went for a ride with my buddy last week on his 1979 Goldwing and she is hooked now too.

I must say this group appears to be as friendly and knowledgeable as the group on my usual 240 site (and trust me, that's high praise when you see some of the other sites out there that are a total waste of time).

Looking forward to riding, learning and making new friends. The biggest question I have right now is regarding insurance. I live around Ottawa Canada. Anybody local have a recommendation as to company or broker? I've done some online searching and have prices ranging from $ 800.00 up to $ 1500.00 This tells me there is something wrong with the insurance industry but also that I may not be looking in the right place.

Yea my sister has been hit twice by "Illegal Aliens" in So. Cal and had to eat the cost both timesbecause they didn't have Ins. or a Lic. ?!:baffled:

The procedure here in The Rep. of Ireland, :jumper:if your stopped by the Gardai (Irish Police):clapper:and you dont have a current Ins.Disc displayed on the windscreen,:whip:your vehicle can be confiscated, :clapper:if the Tax Disc is out of date by three months it can also be confiscated for that offence alone :weightlifter:it is also an offence for failing to carry your driving licence. :whip:Car compounds are full of confiscated vehicles throughout the country :clapper:which will probably never be reclaimed. :shakehead:

A damn sight better system. Washington State has a confiscate and impound policy but the damn dogooders have gone to court arguing that the confiscation is unfair because it hurts the poor more than the rest of the citizens. The $%^&$%& court agreed and stopped it. I guess what they are saying is that it's okay for an illegal immigrant or some poor slob to hit you without insurance or driver's license because if they paid for insurance on their car they couldn't buy their booze or marijuana. Likewise I guess a driver's license is an inconvenience for them too.

The law was probably not politicaly correct,:doh: it might single out a specific type or profile in some way.:gunner2:...

If they actually do impound them all here they will have to open a lot more impound lots. Be sure to work overtime this week or make room in your budget to afford uninsured drivers insurance coverage..

Its too hot, Iwill be so glad when it cools down here a few more degrees.
