In the US on average about 322 people are murdered by a rifle of any kind, not just so called assault weapons, each year. FBI statistic.
In the US an average of 480,000 people die from cigarette smoking. CDC statistic.
Why do we never hear anything about a ban on tobacco?
I know the answers, do you?

You are seeking logic in U.S. statistics?

That's illogical.
No, the point is if the stats are anywhere near right it is illogical to try to ban firearms when there are way worse things. In 2018 1515 people were stabbed to death & 443 with blunt objects. Gun bans are not about guns, they are about control.

It might be surprising to know how many people, even gun owners who are completely ignorant on the subject.

It's not so illogical as miss-informative. There have many attempts to ban tobacco over the years and we may be closer than you think. The bigger issue is, why is it consider acceptable to ban a Constitutional Right?

Take the guns from the citizens and the only people with guns are the government and criminals (kinda the same thing really). Now what is the unarmed populace to do. King George had the same criminal thoughts hence 2A!!

On January 1st 2021 California has banned all tobacco retail store sales. That includes vape products. Weed is okay though.

Boy, that's going to open up opportunities for smugglers & more crime.
