Don't have a problem with mine, it seems to be one of those things (auto volume) that if it's working you don't notice it but when it isnt your always having to adjust the volume.
I dont think the auto volume has any control over the headset, only affects the external speakers.
The tone control works but thats one thing they shouldnt have bothered with.
I ride the bike, I have a little background music, I use the CB a lot, If I want a nice sound, I stay home and listen to music on my home system:)
My first wing was an 84 Interstate that I installed a radio in, having to reach for that volume control all the time as you rode faster and the noise level increased, then when you came to a stop having to dive for the volume control to turn it down....a royal pain..
Also the regular auto radio requires an extra amplifier for working on a bike. On my friends Interstate he says he can't hear the radio above 30 MPH.

If you take a look at the multichanger schematic although I am not an electronics tech, it looks like the auto volume control just affects the output to the power booster IE: radio\CB amplifier (left pocket right side)
