Anyone in S.E. Minn. available to take a test ride for me?

O.K., I found a 1978 GL1000 in Dexter MN that really interests me. Problem is I'm in Canada about 600 miles away. Wondering if someone in southeast Minn. or western Wis. might be interested in taking a Sunday drive to have a peak and see if it's as nice as the owner says it is? MikeF rode across Wis to check out the '87 Aspy I'm driving now but I know there's got to be someone closer than 200 miles. Found the bike on Craigslist: http://rmn.craigslist.org/mcy/1280302381.html That thing would look real nice in my garage.

Any takers?

The deed is done, just waiting for wife to get home to help download pix... :gunhead:

It was only 35 miles, called the seller from truckstop, 1/4 mile from his house :)

He & his wife were out touring on Wing he bought recently, he told me Wing was

in driveway to view, call with any questions... Well, keys were in the old girl, so I had

chance to check it out... had some issues... Several holes in RH exhaust, badly

cracked windshield, less than good throttle response at idle(although ad says carbs

just rebuilt), cd player just stuck in, bezel fell off while test riding, not horrible Wing

totally decked out with every add-on I believe, lights, floorboards, but a little rough

Thanks Cody, look forward to seeing the pics. Always nice to have a 'friend' close by. I was hoping for a blue one but with what you've described I know of one closer to home for close to the same price with fewer issues. Fastest color (black) but second prettiest.

P.S. If the pix I sent direct to your E-mail don't work, check out the HUGE pix I put in

Test Forum :D Okay, I saw some issues in the pics I did'nt notice at the time...

Left fork rubber boot has slid to the top of fork, battery cover has 1 broken tab...

1 pic not very good, tried to show crushing of 3/4 tube close to top of carbs...

From what I see this would have been a steal of a deal in comparison: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...Categories&_fvi=1&item=170361155220&viewitem=

Bike sounds like the plug wires are crossed and it's only running on 2 cylinders, 3 at the most.

Well Cody, I would be comfortable having you assess any bike that I was interested in. Great job, and you are the spirit of this group..

Baggy, my assessment was it was hitting on all 4, but the holes in the muffler both sounded like c**p, as well as reduced the backpressure in the intake system, which caused it to run even rougher than it should

And for someone who wants a good set of OEM mufflers (no longer available) this is a no go for me. I'm wondering, Cody, would you have been so forthright if the owner had been standing there? :cooldevil::cooldevil::cooldevil::cooldevil::cooldevil:

Agreed, plenty of power on test drive, ad says carbs rebuilt, maybe not sync'd ?
