Steve, thats the way most of the adapter boxes I've seen are laid out. If your phone doesn't have a 2.5mm socket, adapters are available for most types of phone. You plug you existing pigtail cord into one end of the box and your helmet plugs into the other one. The Kennedy setup is better as it has proper plugs that plug into the wire harness and you retain your OEM pigtail for plugging your helmet into. The Kennedy item costs more but is well proven, also if you have problems you Jay Jambor is always ready to help (he is a member of this forum as jjambor).

The Kennedy is more expensive, but like Ben says its a proven unit and the makers provide great backup.
