Aspincade frustration!

Hi, I am a new Aspincade owner.

The bike I bought came as a 'naked' version with fairings removed and was quite tidy. I fitted a sports screen which works really well. BUT the front suspensionfeels really odd. Any sizable bumps in the road and the wheel wont stay on the ground. I started to think that because the bike is lighter than standard, I would reduce the main spring length from 472 to 466mm (specified in the manual; pre-post 1983 models) to reduce the pre-load and change the fluid to a synthetic Castrol 5W.

All OK so far.

But, big mistake was taking out the anti-dive orifices to check that they weren't blocked (no they weren't). This releases the ball valve into the anti-dive housing which is backed up by a spring and screw. I cannot remove thescrew(s) which would normally hold the spring and ball into place. Just to confuse matters, the ball valve on the left fork leg was missing. So I'm thinking I will remove the forks and drill the screwsout. I cannot remove the allen head bolts which hold the anti dive case onto the fork leg. These are well and truly seized in.

So, trouble!!! What if the ball valves are left out? Does this mean no anti-dive?

Any suggestions please?

Any missing piece would disable the antidive but I wouldn't think it would be a problem, the earlier models worked fine without it. Go with 15 or 20 wt fork oil to solve the bouncing problem.

Bet it's missing the fairing weight at the front top of the forks causing the front wheel to hop.

I don't think so, I had an 1100 Standard and it sure didn't have any fork hop. About the only thing I can think of that would cause the wheel to hop would be problems in the shock inside the fork or possibly a fork that is over filled with oil. If there is too much oil in the fork it can cause hydraulic lock when the fork compresses over a bump. I'm not sure what leaving the anti-dive without it's vavle(s) working would do but I'm willing to bet it won't be particularly good.If it were my bike I'd rebuild the anti-dive, and pull the forks apart to see if there's a problem with the bushings or the oil damper.
