Of course, my first question is: Does this socket have power? If so... is this really an issue?

If I does not, trace the lines to power. Check for bad fuses and relays.

If you are just talking about a knock out plug... and you want to install a power lead... that is somewhat different.

Ahhh I walked over and took a look at my 96. NO... that hole is not pre-wired for power. You'll need to run a fused line to the accessory lead. That is located on the left... in one of the covered fuse boxes located there.

Okay... so I am being overtly glib...

IF... this bike is new to you... and you foresee adding various electrical components. Then you need one of these:

It allows you to wire in all sorts of things without disturbing the OEM electrical harness...
