Hello all,

Well I was riding into work today and noticed that my engine was backfiring every now and then. The engine runs pretty good so I don't suspect the timeing is off, or if it is off it is not much. As far as I know timeing is the only thing that can cause a backfire to occur. Could something else cause it? Maybe something in the valves if they are not seating well but I thought that would just cause some smoking. I am no expert by anymeans, just a shade tree mechanic with some basic knowledge. I have had quite a lot of success getting answers to my questions on this site as it as filled with knowledgeble people so I will continue to ask and I appreciate any and all responses.

hi unburnt fuel entering the hot exhaust will also cause this i would cheque the spark plugs and the spark on each plug as you might have a faulty plug lead you may not notice it miss fireing as it only happens now and then
