DR650 Fred and me got back into the dirt a little today; coming back from Yakima we rode up and over the North Wenas road, a nice stretch of gravel, dirt, and rock which once was a stagecoach route (!) from Selah to Ellensburg, Washington.Stagecoach!

We couldn't see the big mountains, Adams and Rainier, because they were obscured by smoke from forest fires ignited during our recent "Hotter n' H***" period...... awful dry, them woods of ours....

Truth to tell, I kinda like the gravel ...... I've learned to stand on the pegs of that big ol' KLR 650, lean forward, and roar along the roads like some sort of hero! Great feeling, flying at 40mph, your heart in your mouth, the trees flashing by.... my recently repaired shoulder is feeling pretty good, as long as I don't go down! (Knock on wood.....!). Didn't take the camera because I didn't know we were coming back over the Wenas, but I'll see if I can find something off the web.......

Get out there on the dirt! It's good practice for good bike handling skills, and it's just another slice of the pie!

I sure would like to have another dirt bike but where I live there isn't much riding, someday I'll probably move back to NW Ar. where the riding is great on dirt or pavement.

I begged my parents for a YZ125 to no avail... The little TM75 was getting smaller and my bravery was getting bigger. I had to settle for a used CR80 which seemed enormous compared to the TM. I supposed they were right afterall. Either way, I finally talked them into a KE100... It had all the electrics ('specially a headlight). Riding at night wasn't always fun with the TM and CR. Circa '78-'79...

The first few times I hijacked pops XL350 I dare not stop until I got it back to the house... I'd have to hang off the side of that beast, leg draped over the seat, and tippy toe the ground,... all the while praying that I could either get back on it and go again, or get off of it without dropping it. Did I mention he kept the battery dead on that thing. I think to watch me, from a shadowy corner somewhere laughing,... skin-up my right ankle.

It is just another slice... Well put.

Anyone who visits me will have a good primer in dirt. I think that the mile I take on dirt every time I take the bike out is accelerating my learning experience. In other words - I agree with Cousin Jack.
