For the past 3 summers I have had to replace my rear bearings each year, can anyone tell me what may be causing these bearings to let go..Last year the bearing cracked and just a couple of weeks ago the bearing had to be replaced again.. This is the 3rd summer in a row I have had to do this.. Any suggestions on what the problem may be or what I should be looking for .. Thank You!! :?

Hi Darbie

Are you using cheap bearings???
Are they being fitted correctly???

Steve, we are using good bearings and they were fitted properly by a motorcycle shop last summer. The year before that I did it and the bearing went last summer so I took it in to have it replaced at the shop so I am sure they know how to fit them.. Thanks for the response and it you can think of anything else, please let me know..:?

Rear wheel WAY out of balance?

Wheel out of round where bearing is seated?

Bent axle?

Tweaked swingarm?

Axel nut too tight?

THANK YOU GUYS, WILL LOOK INTO ALL THESE THINGS...

I would start by replacing the rear axle. Did you check the runout on it? I believe it is not suppose to be over 0.01 maybe 0.02 at the most. I'm not sure about the runout max.

Definitely unusual, my bike has 128,000 miles on the original wheel bearings. I check them every time I replace a tire and have spare bearings on hand but haven't needed them as yet.

Yes it is very unusual, but it has happened to us and so far I have replaced the whole back end on the bike so now we just have to wait and see if all is ok.. Wish me luck!!!
Thanks for all the responses, very helpful.. I will keep you all informed..
