Having owned an '86 Suzuki Cavalcade prior to getting my GL1500, I've noticed it takes a lot more effort to get the 'Wing onto the center stand. The Suzuki had an extra lever on the stand that provided some much needed mechanical advantage when trying to horse almost 800 pounds onto the stand. It made the task a cinch, even Mrs.Mini could do it easily. I try not to use the side stand(I've had a bike tip over more than once), but the center stand on the Goldwing takes a lot more effort than it needs to.

You might be interested in the Ride Off center stand. It is shorter and very easy to use.

Its disadvantage is it is a bit less stable. So if someone did lean up against the rear trunk it might possibly push it off.

And the rear tire is still touching the ground, so if you need to change the tire or inspect it or something then you just put a board under the stand then it is up off the ground like normal.

Having the shocks pumped up helps a lot too.
