Bike wont idle and misses all over rpm range

Hi Folks,

My 82 will not idle at all, and misses at all rpm ranges with choke on. It runs much stronger when I spray carb cleaner into the airbox while running, indicating at least idle circuit blockage...? I'm going too order Randakks rebuild kit and set her straight. Any last minute tips on getting the buggers (carbs) out?

Thanks,

Get a manual if you don't already have one. It has better instructions on how to get them out than I could write. One tip they don't tell you is take the bolt out of the top of the gas tank and move it back as much as it will go, not much but helps.

Plan to take an entire weekend for the job. LOTS of little o-rings and funky shaped gaskets to line up and/or leave out. Wish I could help, it's still relatively fresh in my mind after doing it a year ago.

Use Valvoline carb cleaner. I think NAPA has it. Dissolves the junk almost instantly. Randakk suggests you boil the carbs in water, but it didn't work for me.

IIRC the instruction booklet was extra, and definitely worth the cost. I was shocked how complicated the carbs are on this bike.
