I need to remove the metal body below the shifter in order to have it repaired by a body shop and was wondering if anyone has taken this piece off and what is the best way of doing that. I've looked in the service manual and can see instructions for all the other body parts but not this one. Thanks for your help

Hi Pete. Yes thats the short piece. Its a bear to remove as it scrapes off the frame and everything else. I got mine out by bending it and when it was repainted I had to wrap it in thick insulating tape and gently bend it back into place and finally remove the tape.

If I was doing this again, I would just remove the lower frame bar that the side stand mounts to, that would definitely be faster than the way I did it last time.

I know a guy who gave up and just masked around that piece and sprayed it in place, but he has a spray kit in his garage. He didn't know that the lower frame bar was removable.
