boiling rust out of '83 interstate

The ol'rusty tank problem is giving me plenty of fuel flow problems!.. I want to remove the tank. And get it coated with por-15. but a friend suggested, why not have a radiator shop boil it out first. Is this "boiling" a good way to help solve the rust problem i am experiencing? I am looking for the most economical solution. And i am not to confident in the tank coatings, as i have heard of problems that occur later on with these coatings. What about Por-15? is it not much better than the rest?... The radiator shop method sounds viable... just need advice before deciding.:baffled: "knowbuddy"

Ended up buying a tank off Ebay after treating the original tank with mix of muriatic acid & water. Cleaned out the rust temporarily but in no time it rusted up again. Then the liner, PO must have lined the tank, started peeling away from the interior tank wall.

Thought about the radiator shop deal, but when I called a couple, I was told they could not boil out anything that contained or carried combustible product. Don't know if that holds true in your area.

Anyhow, I found a sparkling clean tank on Ebay for only $60. I mean this thing looks brand new. Sure, pulling the tank and installing the new one was a job, but I figured the rest of my fuel system is only as good as where the gas comes from.

As far as coating is concerned, I went with Randakk's recommendation and just add 4 oz. of MMO to each tank of fuel.

Whatever you decide good luck!!

I bought a used tank off eBay which was a little cleaner than the one I had.

I took it to a plating shop, they did the acid bath on it stripping it peachy clean. Looked like a mirror almost. Then they copper plated it and covered that with Nickel plate.

Problem gone. $135 for my fix.
