I just replaced the engine on my Yamaha XS750. Good news is that is runs pretty well, feels stronger than the old one. Unfortunately, the threaded tachometer drive is broken off the front of the motor. It still works but there's nothing to thread the end of the cable onto. I have two other motors that are no good. I thought of grinding the jagged edges smooth, using a hacksaw to cut one off the old motor and somehow attaching it to the front of the good motor.

Would a product such as JB Weld work? I'm thinking between the heat and the vibrations it would break off rather quickly.

Any other ideas?

If not, could it be welded with the motor still on the bike? There does seem to be adequate room to work on it.

Thanks,
Steve

....and of the good one I'd like to cut off and attach to the good motor.

The tach drive should just pull out of the head after removing the screw and retainer.

Thank you, you were absolutely correct. I changed it out, fixed a leaky side cover gasket and all is good.

Thanks again for you help!
