mostly that it runs correctly, and doesn't have the 4th gear problem that happens in the pre 97 1500s(not all have it, just depends on the shifting forks used and how the bike was shifted over its life by previous owners.
Has it sat for some time?

please ask the owner why the fans did not kick in to stop it over heating on idle
The fans probably did kick on. These bikes need fresh air blowing on them if left sitting running for any length of time or they will overheat.

reach under the front of each trunk pocket, next to the seat, checking for movement. there should be none.

if it is, means either the bottom of the trunk mount is cracked or the subframe (which can be replaced) weld is broken.

good luck.

When I come across an owner of a bike that either plays dumb about what he knows about a bike or is just dumb, I walk away....... If I can not get a straight answer, good, bad or indifferent, ...... I walk! Something is either wrong with it which is why they play dumb or if they are just dumb, proper maintenance wasn't done to the bike in the past.

To many bikes on the market to "settle". Throw a really low price to cover all maintenance issues that they could not answer to or walk............ Thats what I would do.

Well went and looked at it.. seemed to be fine it was his fathers bike that passed away last year he did all the work on it.. the son doesn't no much about bikes the reason it over heated is because he let it tun with the choke on at around 2000 rpm for about a hour to charge the battery .. the foot brake felt. Like it went down to low might need to be worked on.. I guess im going to take a shot at it for $2900.00

I don't know what the market is for that year, but sounds about right, but I may be wrong. You will spend a fair amount of time and money covering all the maintenance issues that an older bike will have. Without any records on the past maintenance, you will be covering a lot of ground to make sure it has been done.
It will be great bike, once you make it that way.
Good Luck

I would assume that the timing belts, air, cruise, pre and fuel filters are all original and would need attention. Enloy your new, to you, ride.

Thanks everybody for your info and input.. so far the bike has done good haven't got to ride it much due to the weather.. Still having a problem with the foot brake pedal going down to far learned the hard way not to adjust it to far.. Locked the brakes up in the middle of a hill ..thinking about making a extender for it to bring it up some

It is likely that the brake fluid needs changing and a good brake bleed.
Perhaps the pads are worn out and need changing.
Making an extension to the peddle doesn't seem to be a good idea to me.

I would bet that this bike has gone YEARS without proper maintenance. It is now up to you to get it back to spec ASAP. This will be a great reliable bike once the meaintenance is up to standards.

Get a manual - MOST of the maintenance items are easy to do for even a novice mechanic. With the resources available here online you can do a LOT of the work your self and save money.

Do not start making modifications to an almost flawless Honda design before getting to KNOW the bike inside and out...

(You will thank me later)
