mostly that it runs correctly, and doesn't have the 4th gear problem that happens in the pre 97 1500s(not all have it, just depends on the shifting forks used and how the bike was shifted over its life by previous owners.
Has it sat for some time?

please ask the owner why the fans did not kick in to stop it over heating on idle

The fans probably did kick on. These bikes need fresh air blowing on them if left sitting running for any length of time or they will overheat.
