I just watched an experiment conducted buy the "Myth Busters." The test consisted of cross comparisonperformance of fuel and pollution numbers. In a "nut shell," the motorcycles used far less fuel and in turn produce far less carbon dioxide than the cars, but produced way morecarcinogens than the cars. I believe one of the bikes was a two cycle machine, the other two were early "crotch rockets." I wonder what would the numbers of been if a newer Wing was used?

That's what I was thinking. Maybe we need to get Adam on this board and outfit them with an 1800. I am in the process of helping a friend of mine rewire his 1800, and holy cow, there are more plugs and sensors on there than you can shake a stick at (probably 90-100, seriously). It's got to work better than the bikes they tested.

Cool episode. I think the one thing that was left out was the lack of a cat on the bike. May have something to do with the emission results.

most 06-up bikes set for the U.S. have cats. Its mandatory for 08-up. Not sure what year the M.B. guys used...

Except for the off highway use dirt bikes? I don't think any of the dirt only bikes have cats. That's also the only place you will find 2 stroke bikes still being produced. The issue is the greenies want to ban man motorized off road travel as they feel that only those that can hike in should have access to our natural resources. One of the ways to rid those evil motorcycles from "their" land is to show how damaging to the enviroment they are, including emissions. I haven't seen the episode to see if there was any bias toward the greenies.

they used a bike and car from the 80' 90's and 00's.



Then they used a modern "enduro" style steet/trail bike and measured fuel milage and emissions with and without an enclosed skin (drag test).

Well, I would say that running a bike through some trails would help the forests because the trees use CO2 and other things to help them grow, but then you have to add the other factors to it such as other gasses and stuff that might take affect. I still would have to say that my 04 GL1800 is better than what they tested though. but I can't be 100% on that. They should test it again, and I'd almost let them borrow my bike for it.
