The fairing is easy enough to remove. Once the lower panels are off, the upper fairing is held by a few bolts under the fairing pockets, and under the front edge of the fairing. Once the fairing is off, the shear bolts on the ignition switch are much easier to tap out with a centre punch.
It's been a little more than a year since I had mine removed, but I seem to remember taking off the digital display first to get to the bolts holding the ignition switch in place. Just turn the bars hard right and left to get to the nuts holding the digital display, move it out of your way, then try to remove the bolts holding the ignition switch. It is very difficult and you have to use a short wrench to get in there, but I think it is possible. But, like I said, it has been a while since I removed my switch so I may be wrong.
