Hi, new here, new to Goldwings.

I'm no stranger to Honda's and have all ways had V4 street bikes since 91 (before I was technically old enough to ride on the street but did anyway). Bought my first non V4 street bike two and a half months ago, a CBR1100XX Super Black Bird. Great bike, wife loves it so much she started talking about road trips and my body started to ache just thinking about it so I started looking for a GW. My VF500F Interceptor is a great around town bike, the Black Bird is an excellent day trip to the mountains bike, my V45 Sabre is a great back road cruiser and my Shadow is really comfortable but way too small for any distance riding so here I am...

In the morning I pick up my new to me 85 Interstate with 42k miles. I did get to test ride it a short distance today. I was amazed at how low the center of gravity felt and oddly surprised by the way it felt like an over sized scooter.

I look forward to learning the old girl, getting to know y'all and drawing from your combined years of knowledge of this platform.

The bike is in fair shape, sat outside for some but not a large amount of time I'm sure because there is a little rust on some of the chrome but the paint is not trashed. I's say 6-9 months out doors.

I'm thinking of stripping the chrome from the rails, powder coating them black and painting the bike the same yellow as the GL 1800. What do y'all think?

Welcome and hello . glad to have you with us . your close to some wonderful riding areas .
i think yellow and black is great combination for a color scheme . these ole flat fours are stout smooth running machines . it should provide you many more miles/years of service . enjoy the restifacation and visit wirh us often .
Here's a picture from the seller.

Yeah, I do have some great places to ride around here. Helen is about a half hour away and I live basically at the bottom of Curahee Mountain (101st AB training camp in WWII).

Welcome from Oklahoma :waving: Enjoy the wing
Thanks for all the welcomes guy.

Just got home with the GW. I as pleasantly surprised with how it handles once the pegs are all most on the ground.

Now I have to ask. How tall are you guys? this thing is tiny. I'm 5'11" 170 pounds and felt like I was crammed into a shoe box after about 20 miles. My little 500 Interceptor seems to have more seat room. I've all ways told the wife that the Black Bird was all most as big as a GW, now that they are beside each other I can tell it is a little bigger in some aspects.

I'm still amazed at how low the center of gravity is on this thing though. I found myself cruising through curves pretty dang close to the same speeds as my sport bike and nothing was dragging the ground. Impressive to say the least.
