To check the oil on my l979 Honda Goldwing l000 I have to get on my knees and look through an inspection window....It is very difficult to do....Is there anything that could be done to change from an inspection window to a dip stick without replacing the engine? To check the oil through the window, the book says put the bike on the centerstand...This is easier said than done.....Are there any special techniques to putting the bike on the centerstand...I am always afraid I will drop the bike.

All comments are welcome......ken collins

Thanks for the infor but what do you mean by an after market? How expensive is it and is it difficult to install. Also, where would I get one...kc

you probly need to get it up on the center stand to check oil even with dipstick.
It is not very hard to do. search for threads on here for propper way to do it. use your weight snd leverage to get the bike up.

Getting on center stand is easy when done right, hold left handle bar grip with left hand being certain to keep front wheel straight, put left foot on knob of center stand and push to touchfloor, with right hand grab frame toward rear of seat, spread feet about shoulder width apart or a little more then rock toward rear pushing down of center stand knob while pulling up frame and it should come right on up, be sure you keep front end straight or you won't bring it up and that's also when it's more likely to tip.

And tilt the bike until you can feel both of the center stand feet on the ground. After a few times it does get easier.

Google GL1000 dipstick. JC Whitney does not carry them anymore, but they show up on ebay from time to time. They are not too hard to make yourself.
