Choke Cable on GL1200 STD

This may be the second post on the same issue but I didn't see the first one. So I'll make it shorter. Purchased a 84 gl1200 std this summer and have fond I have a very sticky choke cable so I orderdd another to replace it myself. How har can it be right.

I went in through the top so I removed the false tank and the breather box. Am I going in the right way or should I be going in from the side? I feel like I'm missing something. If i go in through the top how much do I have to remove to get to the end of the cable?
