Possible reason from Ducati forum:

"If you are just replacing the clutch pack and not the basket with it there can be problems. I leaned this the hard way a couple of years ago when I tried to go cheap and only replace the pack and not the full clutch and basket. If you're basket is worn and has notches in it, when you install the new pack and the clutch pack tabs do not align exactly with the old worn notches it can cause the clutch pack to **** slightly. This will cause the clutch will hang up and give you fits by not disengaging. I ended up having to replace all the seals, basket and pack. If your basket is in good condition you should be fine. Mine was kind of an extreme case of learning through stupidity."

In GoldWing case steel discs "eat" center. If you removed discs and didn't install them in exactly same position teeth will not fit worn out spots on center

I learned the hard way myself, GL1100 doesn't like mix & match clutches.
