You don't specify whether you had the carbs synched because that will help. These bikes like to be kept at 2000 rpm or more when taking off although a carb synch will reduce this a bit.
If you have just bought it and especially if it's been sitting a while try giving it a Seafoam treatment. You may even have to pull the carbs and give them a good clean but try the Seafoam first along with as many miles as you can.
