Hi my name is Bob and I have a 1983 GL1100 and when I start out in first gear it starts out kind of rough. I just had the carbs and valves adjusted and that helped but it is still doing it. It sounds to me like it is missing but I checked the plugs and wires and they looked ok. Any help would be very appreciated.

You don't specify whether you had the carbs synched because that will help. These bikes like to be kept at 2000 rpm or more when taking off although a carb synch will reduce this a bit.
If you have just bought it and especially if it's been sitting a while try giving it a Seafoam treatment. You may even have to pull the carbs and give them a good clean but try the Seafoam first along with as many miles as you can.

Yes I did have the carbs synched and I ran some seafoam through too twice still not running right. I am going to take it to the local Honda dealer to see if they can tell me what the problem is.

Unscrew your plug boots from the plug wires. Look at the end of the plug wires where they unscrewed from the boot. Is the center core corroded or clean & shiny?

Trim off 1/4 inch of the wire if your wires are long enough to trim so that you expose new center core wire.

I would buy 4 new plug boots because they have resistors in them that can go bad & cause a weak spark.
