Well I restoring a 1977 gl1000 and I had to take the gas tank out, so my question is since I have the all of the rear end off the bike should I do any maintence to the clutch.



If so what should a be looking at.

Since your in that far I'd at least pull the clutch pack out and have a look at the condition.

Look for:
any chips off the plates or metal pieces embedded in the fiber plates.
mike the thickness of all the plates
any grooving or warpage
any grooving of the clutch basket
mike the length of the springs.

There may be other things to look for also, the manual spells it out pretty good.
