I purchased a Compufire alternator and put on my 97 GL1500 SE. It showed it was charging. I road it to work, about 20 miles. Whe I left for the day to come to the house the alternator was not charging. I took it off and sent it ot compufire. The checked it and said it was fine. I put it back on and no charge. Anyone have this experience or a suggestion before I take it off and ...............

The stock alternator charges fine.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Check that the exciter wire has power with the key on (the small one that plugs into the alt.). Start the engine and check for power at the output terminal lug on the alt.

The excite wire came unplugged from the connection under the left side tank cover. Connected it back and the compufire works just fine.

I changed it because I need the additronal output to run the lights.

Thanks for the help.
