I purchased a Compufire alternator and put on my 97 GL1500 SE. It showed it was charging. I road it to work, about 20 miles. Whe I left for the day to come to the house the alternator was not charging. I took it off and sent it ot compufire. The checked it and said it was fine. I put it back on and no charge. Anyone have this experience or a suggestion before I take it off and ...............

The stock alternator charges fine.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Check that the exciter wire has power with the key on (the small one that plugs into the alt.). Start the engine and check for power at the output terminal lug on the alt.

Fuse is bad or wire is bad. That wire needs battery voltage to charge. Is that why you replaced the old alt.?
It may have just come unplugged?
