Does “fork oil” contain the detergent and anti rust additives that ATF has?
I doubt it, not really needed.

I have looked at some dealers for various viscousties of fork oil and usually they don't have a selection. I tried 'fork oil' once and it did not seem any different than ATF, so I figured I have a gallon jug, may as well use it up. That was about 10 years or more ago. ATF is still what I use even in my GL 1800.

There's nothing wrong with using ATF. The reason many people use a designated Fork Oil is to be able to set and/or adjust the damping with weights of oil. With ATF you are just guessing. If you're the type of guy who doesn't need a torque wrench to tighten fasteners, you can also use your calibrated elbow to shake the bottle of ATF and determine the viscosity!
